The Janiczeks Tour Germany (and a little of France)

Randy's parents arrived in Frankfurt on July 17 - it was so wonderful to see them! The first weekend they were here we rented a car and toured all over Germany and even made it into Strasbourg, France. You can see we took a lot of pictures; I have written some information about each photo below. This weekend we visited Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber (which is the most well preserved medieval town in Germany), the Dachau concentration camp from WWII, Munich, Mad King Ludwig’s famous Neuschwanstein Castle, Lindau, Germany, and finally, Strasbourg, France. As you can see, we had a very busy and fun weekend together! (click on each picture to see a larger version)

Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber

Carol and Jim in downtown Rothenburg

A beautiful view from the Rothenburg city wall that circles the town

This is the entry gate into the Dachau concentration camp -
the door reads "Work Shall Set You Free" in German.

Post war sculpture in the camp - walking around and seeing the camp
was extremely sad. We were all horribly amazed that something like
this could ever happen.

More of the Dachau camp

This is in Munich - there were a lot of cameras going off
and somehow Randy is the only one looking in the right direction
for this one ;-)

Seeing snow-capped mountains for the first time in our lives
on our drive through Bavaria on our way to the castle.

Another mountain view from the car - beautiful!

Mad King Ludwig's Neuschwanstein Castle - this is the castle
Walt Disney used to design the Cinderella Castle in Disney World

The castle Mad King Ludwig and family lived in near the
Neuschwanstein castle - Neuschwanstein was never completed
due to King Ludwig's death.

The area around Neuschwanstein was absolutely beautiful! This is
right near the base of the mountains the castle is on.

We hiked up the mountain to get to Neuschwanstein castle - the hike
was a 45 minute walk going straight up-hill - it was exhausting, but worth it!

Randy and I outside the castle

A beautiful view (that gives you perspective of how high
we climbed ON FOOT) of the other castle

Another beautiful view from the grounds of Neuschwanstein castle

Us on the bridge over a waterfall (yes, we climbed even higher) near the castle

The waterfall at Neuschwanstein castle

Just breathtaking

A great family picture

Lindau, Germany - this was a very charming town on the water.
The Swiss Alps are in the background.

Cool building in Lindau

The Cathedral in Strasbourg, France

The most amazing clock I have ever seen, located
inside the Cathedral in Strasbourg
