When we got back home from Germany, I went to my doctor and they changed my due date back to September 28, from October 3. I started going to the doctor's once a week because I had entered my last month of pregnancy. I had gone to three weekly appointments in a row and I hadn't put on any weight and my uterus had only grown a half inch (about 1 centimeter) in three weeks. Because of this, my doctor said she wanted to schedule an ultra sound to do a physical on the baby to see if it was OK because I wasn't getting any bigger. So, I had my ultrasound on September 18 at 8:00 a.m. and by noon I got a call from my doctor telling me that I needed to be induced into labor that night!!!! I was shocked because I didn't think that would happen and we were not totally ready for the baby to come. The baby had scored a 10 out of 10 on the ultra sound physical, but my doctor explained that growth was important and it was better to have the baby growing out here than not growing in my belly. And since the baby was very healthy, it needed to come out as soon as possible. So, Randy and I both left work at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, ran a few errands, went home, went to the beach for one last relaxing walk, went out to a nice dinner and then went to the hospital to have our baby. We got to the Grand Haven hospital at about 9:00 p.m. and they began inducing me by 10:00 p.m. The induction worked a little faster than they thought and I stated getting contractions that were 5-7 minutes apart within 2 hours. After a few more hours, I started full out labor with strong contractions every 2-3 minutes. The strong labor continued through the morning, and after 14 hours, Randy and I had our baby BOY! Samuel's entrance into the world was a little traumatic. During the last part of labor, the cord had gotten wrapped around Sam's neck, although there were no signs of fetal distress during any of my labor (even the last minute). So when Sam came out, the doctor was surprised to see the cord around his neck and to see he was completely limp and non responsive. They took him immediately to a medical station set up in my room and began working on him (five or so doctors and nurses) to get him to move and make noise. Sam's heart was beating and he was breathing, but he had to get tubes but down his throat to clear out fluid. After 3 minutes of the doctors working on Samuel, he finally moved and made his first cries. Even though it was only three minutes, it seemed a lot longer to Randy and I - we were so scared! After all of that, he was fine and very healthy. Samuel James Janiczek was born at 12:11 p.m. and weighed 6 lbs. 2 oz. (2778.3 grams) and was 19 3/4 inches (50.17 centimeters) long. Randy and I had a few boy names picked out, but after we looked at him together he was definitely Samuel James. He is an absolutely beautiful little boy, and we feel so blessed to have him for our son. We came home from the hospital on Sunday, and over the past few days we have all been doing a lot of learning and a lot of loving. Here are some pictures of the whole experience so far.
